The Takanini site is the largest of Fonterra Brands New Zealand’s (FBNZ) processing sites and is the company’s head office. The site produces a number of products including milk, UHT and cultured dairy food for some of New Zealand’s best-loved brands.

Established in 1972, the site has been developed and expanded over the years, including updating processing and packaging technology to keep its fresh, UHT and cultured products at the cutting-edge of consumer demand.

FBNZ Takanini produces popular Kiwi products such as Anchor fresh milks, Fresh n’ Fruity yoghurts, Primo flavoured milks and CalciYum dairy food and milk.

Fresh milk is a core product for FBNZ. The Takanini site’s seven filling lines package more than 298,000 litres of fresh milk each day and can produce around 6.4 bottles per second.

The site has spent NZ$8 million expanding and upgrading the UHT processing facilities to help meet the significant growth occurring in the global UHT market. More than 90 per cent of UHT milk and cream produced on site is exported to markets in the Pacific and Asia, including China, Singapore and the Philippines.

FBNZ Takanini produces the full range of Country Goodness’ dips, cream cheese, sour cream and cottage cheese. The site produces 12 tonnes of cottage cheese each week using more than 43,000 litres of milk and 4.2 tonnes of sour cream every day. Cultured products are also produced for our Fresh n’ Fruity, CalciYum, Symbio, Kapiti and Mammoth brands.

To keep up with young New Zealanders’ demand, the site produces 100,000 pots of CalciYum dairy food every day.
