Everyday Nutrition

Dairy can help provide an important source of everyday nutrition. It’s packed full of protein, calcium and a whole host of other vitamins, minerals and nutrients.

In its various forms dairy enables a multitude of ‘better for you’ foods from products designed to aid growth and development in children, right through to low fat convenience foods for adults.

We extract the goodness of dairy to provide ingredients which offer enhanced nutritional benefits. Our ingredients offer great tastes and textures in formats including powders, beverages, snacks, cultured products, creams and cheeses.

With more than 80 years experience in dairy nutrition, the Fonterra Research and Development Centre is the world’s leading dairy innovation hub, and supports our regional technical centres to deliver customer support and commercialise a range of everyday consumer products.

We provide world leading ingredients, technical services and application science support to customers to help them realise their innovation potential in dairy.

Key Benefit Areas:

Healthy growth & development

Dairy is a rich source of protein and calcium; essential nutrients for growth and development.

Sustained energy

Carbohydrates provide a ‘quick release’ form of energy to the body, where blood glucose is quickly transferred into cells and made available for use by the body. Protein can play a role in slowing down this transfer of blood glucose, helping control and sustain the release of energy over a longer period of time.

Fuller for longer

Protein is generally a ‘filling’ nutrient, in that it leaves you feeling satisfyingly full for longer. As a result, regular intakes of dairy protein may help curb unwanted distractions and keep you feeling fuller for longer.

Less fat, less sugar

Our range of functional dairy ingredients deliver taste and texture benefits that allow the reduction of fat and sugar in a range of consumer products.

Clean label (formulated with fewer ingredients)

Fonterra research across global markets has shown that consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the number of ingredients and additives in the foods they consume. Our dairy based ingredients are generally more acceptable to consumers than alternatives such as starch, gums and artificial sweeteners, and help manufacturers achieve taste and texture benefits with fewer ingredients.
